Two-high safety

Two safeties deep, the shell behind Cover 2, quarters and Cover 6.

A two-high shell keeps both safeties deep before the snap. It is the shell behind Cover 2, quarters and Cover 6, and it takes away explosive plays down the field.

The trade-off is a lighter box, which is why two-high defenses tend to give up rushing yardage.
