Red zone
The area inside the opponent's 20-yard line, where the field shortens.
The red zone is the area inside the opponent's 20-yard line. With no room behind the defense, deep routes disappear and coverage tightens into a compressed space.
Touchdown chances rise there while passing yardage falls, which is why red-zone usage is tracked separately from overall volume.
