Line of scrimmage
The imaginary line where the ball is placed at the snap, which neither team may cross early.
The line of scrimmage is where the ball sits at the snap. Neither team may cross it before the play begins, and seven offensive players must be on it.
Almost every rule about eligibility, motion and alignment is written in relation to this line.
