Shallow concepts
Crossing routes run just above the line of scrimmage, usually paired with a deeper dig behind them.
A shallow concept sends a receiver across the formation one to three yards deep while a second receiver runs a dig or over route behind him. Against man coverage the crosser forces defenders to chase through traffic; against zone he settles in the first open window.
Shallow-heavy offenses generate high-percentage completions with real yards after the catch, which lifts reception and receiving-yard floors for slot receivers, tight ends and backs.
