A wide-9 alignment places the EDGE far outside the tackle, giving him a runway to attack up the field. It shortens the corner he has to run and turns the rush into a pure speed contest.
The cost is run fit: aligning that wide opens the C gap inside him, so the linebackers behind must be fast to the ball.
