Z receiver (flanker)
The flanker, off the line of scrimmage and able to use motion to dodge press.
The Z receiver, or flanker, lines up off the line of scrimmage. That free release lets him be moved with motion, stacked behind another receiver, or given a clean start against press coverage.
The Z often works the intermediate middle of the field, where coverage rules decide whether he is open.
